Argyle, a pattern made from repeating a diamond shape, derives from Scottish plaids.
The more traditional, still often found in wool and knitwear, layers the diamond with overlapping diagonal lines. More contemporary patterns may replace the diamond with other shapes, or introduce more colors and complexity to the print.
