Japanese wooden joinery, traditionally done without hardware or adhesives, allows for complex structures to be made from interlocking pieces.
Various joints created from interlocking shapes can support large and small structures alike. The traditional craft has its own specialized tools, allowing for deliberate cuts and shapes to be formed to allow for the architecture to be a present design element in finished buildings.
