Brasilia-Chandigarh

vowels Team

In the 1960's, utopian architectural visions abounded across the globe. Niemeyer and Costa planned a modern Brasilia, while Le Corbusier worked on a plan to structure the urban sprawl of Chandigarh. In cities around the world, these utopian structures have become popular monuments to past architectural styles, but have not necessarily solved the worldly plights of their neighborhoods. In Iwan Baan's photographs, we see how people live within and around grand structures, adapting them to the realities and needs of the communities that inhabit them.
