Federico Fellini's sketches

Words by Emily Ma

For some, drawing is meant as a process as opposed to a final product. One might feel that they don't know exactly what it is they're aiming to portray until their pencil starts moving. In this unique category of drawings and sketches, one finds creative freedom in the essence being conveyed.

In these sketches by Federico Fellini, you can see a clear correlation between what he imagined prior to making a film and what he depicted in the final product. Spending his early days working at local theaters and cafes drawing caricatures, Fellini developed a cartoonish drawing style.
