Tadao Ando and natural light
Emily Ma
A space comes alive when we let the light in, especially the sun. Integrating a building into its natural surroundings is a notable philosophy found in the works of architect Tadao Ando. We’re inspired by the give-and-take of sunlight and concrete, forcing the structures to engage with their setting. Even in stark spaces we can find a gamut of tonality, blues and grays where the sun-cast shadows fall upon the coarse materials of Ando’s structures.
