Yasuhiro Ishimoto's Flower Study
Words by Emily Ma
What shapes do the gems of nature take? In 1986, Japanese-American photographer Ishimoto Yasuhiro built a simple studio in the living room of his Tokyo home to do a study of flowers' structures. The soft arc of a stem and the wilt of a pedal, the black and white photographs stripped of brilliant colors reveal the kinetic energy in quiet existence of single stems.
